Can I Fund Just One Invoice?

Business owner considering single invoice finance to release cash from one unpaid customer invoice

Can I Fund Just One Invoice?

Yes. Single invoice finance, also called spot invoice finance, can release cash from one eligible unpaid B2B invoice without funding your complete sales ledger or entering an ongoing facility.

Which invoices may qualify?

A provider will normally require:

  • A genuine invoice issued to another business or public-sector body.
  • Completed and accepted goods or services.
  • A creditworthy customer with clear payment terms.
  • An invoice that is not disputed, subject to a credit note or already paid.
  • Evidence supporting the order, delivery and invoice.

Pro-forma invoices, consumer debts, intercompany invoices and invoices for incomplete work are not normally suitable. Contractual invoices, stage payments and retentions require specialist assessment.

How does single invoice finance work?

  1. You select the invoice you want assessed.
  2. The provider checks your business, customer and supporting evidence.
  3. An agreed proportion may be released after approval and verification.
  4. The provider deducts its charges when the customer pays and returns the balance.

Customer notification, payment arrangements, recourse and guarantees vary. These points should be understood before accepting an offer.

When is funding one invoice appropriate?

It can suit an occasional large invoice, an urgent payroll or supplier commitment, or a completed contract where ongoing invoice finance is not required. If funding is needed repeatedly, a full invoice finance facility may provide better long-term value.

Can a new business qualify?

Potentially. A new start may qualify when it has completed work for a suitable customer and raised a valid invoice. The provider will still examine the business, directors, contract and transaction.

Previous credit problems do not automatically prevent consideration, but CCJs, tax arrears, insolvency history and other adverse information must be disclosed. Approval remains subject to the provider’s assessment.
